Privacy policy

TownVibez (“we”, “us”) is a local guide to what's happening in Thiruvananthapuram. This policy explains what we collect when you use townvibez.com and the TownVibez app, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address and, if you add them, a profile photo, bio and home area. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile photo from Google through Firebase Authentication.
Things you post: posts, photos, stories, comments, community threads, events and places you submit, and “vibe” reports. These are public once approved.
Your activity: places and events you save, follow or mark as interested, communities you join and votes you cast.
Location: if you choose “near me”, your approximate coordinates are kept in your session to show nearby results. We don't track your location in the background. You can pick an area instead.
Usage data: pages viewed, searches, and taps such as “Directions” or “Share”, used to measure what's popular in town and improve the service.
Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, collected in server logs for security and abuse prevention.

Cookies

Essential: a session cookie keeps you signed in and remembers your chosen area; a CSRF cookie protects forms.
Preferences: tv_theme remembers light or dark mode.

How we use it

To show you events, places and posts relevant to where you are.
To run your account, save your lists and publish what you share.
To review submissions before they go live and to keep the community safe.
To understand trends (for example, what's trending this week) and improve TownVibez.

We don't sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Service providers that run parts of TownVibez for us: hosting, Google Firebase (sign-in) and OpenFreeMap (map tiles).
Everyone, for content you choose to publish (your display name and what you post).
Authorities, when the law requires it.

Links to booking sites, maps and organisers' pages take you to services with their own privacy policies.

How long we keep it

Stories expire after 24 hours. Other content stays until you or our moderators remove it. When you delete your account (from your profile), we delete your profile and personal details; some public content may be kept without your name.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit your profile, remove your posts and delete your account at any time. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also ask us for a summary of your data, to correct it, or to erase it.

Children

TownVibez isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
